Evaluation of the Apoptotic and Antiproliferative Activities of Paclitaxel in Ehrlich Ascites Tumor Cells
Taxol (paclitaxel, PAC) is a diterpene with antitumor activity against a variety of human neoplasms. PAC cytotoxicity is thought to derive mainly from a stabilization of microtubules as a result of enhanced tubulin polymerization that leads to an accumulation of cells in G2/M phase of cell cycle. In this study, the cytotoxic effect occurred by PAC in tumor cells in vitro were examined. Mouse ma...
متن کاملAntiproliferative activities of Amaryllidaceae alkaloids from Lycoris radiata targeting DNA topoisomerase I
Crude Amaryllidaceae alkaloids (AAs) extracted from Lycoris radiata are reported to exhibit significant anti-cancer activity. However, the specific alkaloids responsible for the pharmacodynamic activity and their targets still remain elusive. In this context, we strived to combine affinity ultrafiltration with topoisomerase I (Top I) as a target enzyme aiming to fish out specific bioactive AAs ...
متن کاملScreening Isolates for Ergot Alkaloids
A procedure was developed to isolate and determine ergot alkaloid production by Acremonium coenophialum, the endophytic fungus of tall fescue. The procedure established that macerated leaf sheath or pith from inRorescence stem placed either in a liquid medium or on a corn meal-malt extract agar medium produced isolated mycelium and characteristic conidia within a 3to 3.5-week period. Once isola...
متن کاملAntiproliferative and Structure Activity Relationships of Amaryllidaceae Alkaloids.
The antiproliferative activity of a set of seven natural Amaryllidaceae alkaloids and 32 derivatives against four cancer cell lines (A2780, SW1573, T47-D and WiDr) was determined. The best antiproliferative activities were achieved with alkaloids derived from pancracine (2), haemanthamine (6) and haemantidine (7). For each skeleton, some structure-activity relationships were outlined.
متن کاملIn vitro biological screening of the anticholinesterase and antiproliferative activities of medicinal plants belonging to Annonaceae
The aim of this research was to investigate the antiproliferative and anticholinesterase activities of 11 extracts from 5 Annonaceae species in vitro. Antiproliferative activity was assessed using 10 human cancer cell lines. Thin-layer chromatography and a microplate assay were used to screen the extracts for acetylcholinesterase (AchE) inhibitors using Ellman's reagent. The chemical compositio...
